Thoracic Disc Herniation
Thoracic disc herniation, whose most common symptom is back pain, is less common compared to the cervical and lumbar regions.
Among the reasons for this may be that the thoracic region is a less mobile, more stable area, and that the ribs help carry the load on the spine to a certain extent.
The rate of patients showing clinical findings is about 1% of all disc herniations.
Thoracic disc herniations are seen in the lower thoracic region. Since the ribs do not articulate with the sternum at the T11-T12 level, the movement potential is greater. For this reason, disc herniation is seen more frequently at this level.
