Carpal Tunnel Surgery

How Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Surgery Performed?

If pain and numbness do not improve despite non-surgical treatments, surgery is recommended to the patient. In most cases, the surgery is performed by numbing the patient’s hand area, and in an operation lasting about 15 minutes, the transverse carpal ligament compressing the median nerve is cut.

Under local anesthesia, through a 2 cm incision made from the wrist toward the palm, the transverse carpal ligament over the nerve is cut, thereby relieving the nerve compression. This method provides permanent relief.

After 3–5 days of wrist rest following the surgery, the patient returns to normal daily life.
