Herniated Disc Diagnosis
Herniated disc pain complaints improve in 90% of our patients diagnosed with a herniated disc after medication, bed rest, or physical therapy recommended by the doctor. To reduce the edema and swelling that develop in the nerve due to the herniation, anti-edema corticosteroids may be used, and painkillers and muscle relaxants may be tried to relieve the pain. In patients whose pain continues despite the non-surgical treatment methods applied, surgery may be necessary.
When Is Surgery Necessary for a Herniated Disc?
- Severe leg pain
- Loss of strength in the leg and/or foot (requires urgent intervention)
- Urinary incontinence (requires urgent intervention)
- Muscle wasting (atrophy)
- Surgery is definitely recommended in herniated discs that compress the nerve roots and cause pain or weakness in the legs.
