How Is a Herniated Disc Diagnosed?
Today, herniated disc diagnosis can be made easily with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and its severity can also be determined. In cases of herniated disc, the MRI scan provides detailed information about the vertebrae, discs, nerve roots, and the changes caused by the herniation in the spinal cord. A lumbar MRI may detect herniation at more than one level, but surgery is not recommended for all of them. For this reason, lumbar MRI in our herniated disc patients is only a diagnostic method showing that the patient has a herniated disc. In order to determine the treatment method, the patient must absolutely be examined by a Brain and Nerve Diseases Specialist.
