Frequently Asked Questions About Brain Hemorrhages

What Causes Brain Hemorrhage?

The most common brain hemorrhages may occur due to abnormalities related to the vascular structure, spontaneously, or because of causes such as high blood pressure or trauma. Brain hemorrhages related to trauma are quite common. They occur as a result of a blow to the skull and cause bleeding. There are also hemorrhages that occur due to abnormalities in the brain vessels. Other types of bleeding are those that occur within the brain tissue itself and develop as a result of structural disorders of the brain or tumors.

Do Brain Hemorrhages Leave Permanent Damage?

Brain hemorrhages or their symptoms may leave permanent damage in the patient when they are not taken into consideration. Since the cells in the area where the brain hemorrhage occurs are damaged just like in a heart attack, they cannot function again. Because brain tissue does not have the ability to regenerate itself. However, if the stunned cells around the dead cells can be recovered, the damage will be reduced to that extent. ?Another important issue is the volume of the bleeding inside the skull. Since the skull is a closed box, the amount of blood in a brain hemorrhage puts pressure on the brain. If this pressure is not reduced immediately when the first symptoms appear, the brain tissue becomes compressed. This may mean the end of life or paralysis.

Which Diseases Increase the Risk of Brain Hemorrhage?

The disease that creates the greatest risk in brain hemorrhage is hypertension. Because high blood pressure increases the risk of vessel rupture and bleeding, it is among the most common causes. Patients with blood diseases, vascular occlusion, or heart rhythm problems generally need blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin). If the dose of these thinners is excessive, it increases the risk of brain hemorrhage. Apart from this, patients who have health problems inside the skull that may cause bleeding, abnormalities in the vascular structures in the brain, or obvious diseases such as tumors are at risk of brain hemorrhage.
